Simple communications cabinet rules

When is the last time your communications cabinet has been serviced? The cabinet on the left presents a number of concerns, the mess of cables, stacking equipment on top of each other and general disorganisation means the ports cannot be traced accurately and presents difficulties for system management and troubleshooting.

Unfortunately, the messy communications cabinet is a regular sight that our team comes across and it could spell disaster for your ICT network. In fact, the cabinet on the left could result in over heating, reduction in life of your equipment and could result in a fault or fire leading to major issues for your operations.

The cabinet on the right is typical of an ideal communications cabinet, housing neat labelled cables, correct patch leads, with equipment mounted and stable on shelves, correct power distribution and outdated equipment removed. Ideally, your communications cabinet should be planned and presented in an organised manner.
